CRITIQUE
To: Queensland Boxer Club.
Firstly, I would like to thank the Queensland
Boxer Club for the invitation to Judge your Boxer Championship Show and
the hospitality that was extended to my wife, Barbara and me.
Secondly, I would like to thank the exhibitors for their entry and good
sportsmanship displayed on the day.
Generally speaking, the heads were quite
typical and have improved since I was last in Brisbane. Mouths were a
bit 'mixed' in quality - I saw some good ones and some that were not so.
Eyes also were also 'mixed' as some were more almond shaped than open in
shape. I did see one that was too open and large. This of course
affected the expression. Movement was disappointing in some exhibits.
Hindquarter movement was in many cases weak. I did see many
'crabbing' with an inefficient movement. It is always good to see a
Boxer moving with ease and covering ground without too much effort.
Baby Puppy Dog
This young red/white male is waiting for 'turn
up' of muzzle which should come with maturity, I would prefer a higher
tail set. Hindquarters also may improve with maturity and exercise.
Junior Dog
1st
This dog was of good type. A strong
masculine dog but would have preferred a shorter back and more length of
upper arm.
2nd
This exhibit was of good type, however not as well
developed in bone as No 1
3rd
Movement needs improvement - exercise may
help.
Intermediate Dog
1st
This exhibit was typically a 'square' dog but
needed a little more drive from the rear. More depth of chin would
improve his head.
2nd
This dog also needed more drive from the
hindquarters and was not as short in back as No 1
3rd
This dog needed a little more turn of stifle.
More turn up of muzzle would improve his head.
Australian Bred
1st
Good type excellent head and correct front
assembly, more rear drive would have improved this dog overall.
Open Dog - Challenge Dog and Best in
Show
1st
I liked this dog. He was of excellent breed
type, strong head with excellent rise of skull. He has a short back, correct
front and correct high set tail. Displayed typical Boxer temperament.
2nd Reserve Challenge Dog
This was another excellent dog and good
competition to the first dog. He was typical in most respects but could
have had more drive.
3rd
This was a good class of Boxers. Another good
example of this breed. I would have preferred more turn of stifle
in this dog.
4th
Also good breed type but would have improved with
more muscle development in the upper thigh.
Baby Puppy Bitch
1st
Puppies are sometimes unpredictable; however, this
young lady needs to improve in the topline. Of course this may come with
maturity.
2nd
On the day this puppy appeared a little longer in
back than the first place winner. Topline also could have
been straighter.
Minor Puppy Bitch
1st
This was a good type of young Bitch and shows
promise. Feminine, good topline, turn up of muzzle yet to
come. Overall, a promising young, 'eye catching' Bitch.
Puppy Bitch
1st
A feminine, sound Bitch. Good correct muzzle and
chin, however,
could 'break' a little with maturity and this would
improve her head.
2nd
This exhibit was a little longer in back than No
1. If muzzle breaks (turns up) and hind-quarters strengthen, this will
improve her overall.
3rd
Would have preferred more depth of muzzle, shorter
back and more strength in the hind- quarters.
Junior Bitch
1st
Correct type, correct head, muzzle and
expression. Moved well. Brisket should improve in depth with
maturity.
2nd
A good typical square body. Would
prefer her mouth and chin to be wider.
3rd
Good expression, would have liked to see this
Bitch move with more purpose.
Intermediate Bitch
1st
Good correct type. A sound mover.
Head could be improved by a wider muzzle and chin.
2nd
This Bitch moved soundly, however would have
preferred a darker eye colour and wider muzzle.
3rd
Would have preferred more rise of skull.
Australian Bred Bitch - Bitch
Challenge and Runner Up to Best in Show
1st
A soundly constructed Bitch. Moved with
purpose and covered the ground with ease. She not only had reach but
drive to match. Possibly the best and most correct mover on the day.
A wider chin would have been an improvement.
2nd
Good type with good head that would have been
improved with a wider muzzle.
3rd
I would have preferred a shorter back and
better expression for this Bitch.
Open Bitch - Reserve Bitch Challenge
1st
This Bitch moved well. She had a strong head with
correct proportions, more turn up of muzzle would improve. For a
Bitch, she had strong, well developed musculation.
2nd
Good feminine Bitch, could move with more purpose.
3rd
This Bitch was a little longer in back than
the 1st and 2nd placegetters. Would have preferred better movement.
I do hope my comments on your Boxers are of help
to you. Overall, I believe that as you have improved
your heads so much, you should now be looking at the strength &
musculation of the hindquarters as movement needs improving.
