Big Lure Coursing Day for Toshi and Shaaron

August 28th was Hope Island Cup day for the Qld Lure Coursing Association at Kuraby.  After raining on and off for nearly a week, Sunday dawned fine and clear and not too hot.   The meet coincided with the QLCA’s 21st birthday celebration and the club put on a great day with free runs and demos and a yummy bbq.  Qld Boxer Club had one of the breed stalls there.  Congrats to QLCA on their achievement and we wish them all the best for the next 21.

This meet is an invitational where only the top 3 qualifiers from each breed can compete.  The course was 550m and the dogs had to run twice within approx 15 mins with vet checks before and after each run.  There are 3 judges and each run is scored out of 100 points.

There are four trophies up for competition.

Hope Island Cup for Sight Hounds

Fun is a Terrier Cup for all Terrier Breeds

Rouge et Noir Cup for Unregistered Breeds

Shannett Trophy for all other Registered Breeds

There was a Boxer competing in the Unregistered category but Oscar was pipped by a Fox Terrier.  A Whippet won the Sight Hounds group and a Staffy won the Terriers Cup.

QBC member Shaaron Borg had both Benson and Toshi entered and they were competing against all the rest of the field including a Dobermann, Kelpies, a Golden and some GSP’s.  A Boxer last won the Shannett Trophy back in 2000.

Benson tried hard and earned some very respectable scores but the course was just a bit long and he slowed down towards the end of each run.   But not Toshi – she went full bore all the way and scored 517 out of 600 and is the new Shannett Trophy winner for 2011!

Toshi is of course Ch Ronin Drunken Encounter at Sanlian (Imp NZ) owned by Shaaron Borg.

Big congrats to Shaaron and Toshi and Benson for an excellent day!
